Answer: Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a useful Analyze It of human motivations. It is built on the idea that people seek to fulfill human needs at the lowest level first, and only when those are satisfied do needs at the next level begin to influence their behavior. In order from bottom to top, they are: 1) Physiological Needs – basic needs such as food, water, and air. 2) Safety Needs – security, stability, protection, structure, order, law, and organization, as well as freedom from fear, anxiety, and chaos. 3) Belonging and Love Needs – friendship, affiliation, companionship, affection, relationships, and interpersonal acceptance. 4) Self-Esteem Needs – self-respect, self-confidence, achievement, competency, and worthiness, as well as reputation, prestige, status, fame, glory. 5) Self-Actualization Needs – self-fulfillment, reached potential, high ideals, satisfaction in doing what one is meant to do. Examples will vary.
