Discuss how having “fun” complements interventions that focus on the concerns of older adults.

What will be an ideal response?

Activities that provide fun can help remind the older person that life is not just a series of problems and that positive experiences can exist despite challenges. Some therapists might incorporate some time to engage the older adults in an exercise that involves a card or board game depending on the willingness of the client to participate. For some clients it is a way to divert attention from difficult topics and they may need a “time out” to engage in fun. Again referral to recreational facilities at senior centers is another option.
