Maintaining a mutually beneficial relationship with audiences, keeping up-to-date on appropriate skills and tools, and being an ethical professional are still the necessary components for successful practitioners. The rise of the Industrial Age was a terrific force, propelling the need for PR practitioners. Then after World War I, other factors came into play that cemented the PR profession: America was building a consumer culture, people were more engaged in leisure activities, and public opinion was a common topic.
