Describe sexual addiction and the controversy surrounding it.

What will be an ideal response?

Patrick Carnes wrote about and marketed the idea of sexual addiction. He said that sex addicts cannot make a commitment. They live for the high they derive from sexual arousal and orgasm to escape feelings of worthlessness. It is an activity over which they have no control. The majority of psychologists do not support the concept of sexual addiction, but it has become a big subject on mainstream media. It has occasionally been called hypersexuality, but this term has not been accepted by the APA.
