Cardiac muscle seems in some respects to be intermediate in characteristics between smooth and skeletal muscle. In what ways does the structure and function of cardiac muscle have properties that are intermediate between these other two muscle types?

What will be an ideal response?

Cardiac muscle fibers are similar to skeletal in that they both have striations. Cardiac muscle fibers are intermediate in size between skeletal muscle fiber and smooth muscle fibers. Like smooth muscle fibers, they have an inherent rate of beat, are electrically coupled, and respond to the autonomic nervous system by increasing or decreasing their rate of beat.
