Use glucose and phosphate to contrast how the kidney does and does not regulate plasma concentration of plasma components

What will be an ideal response?

Glucose is an example of a substance not regulated by the kidneys. The kidneys reabsorb all the glucose in the filtrate up to the tubular maximum, but do not regulate its plasma concentration. This is accomplished through a variety of endocrine controls. Phosphate is an example of a substance regulated by the kidneys. The kidneys can reabsorb up to normal plasma concentrations of phosphate but no more. So any excess phosphate remains in the urine and is excreted from the body. In this way the kidneys maintain the normal amount of phosphate and excess is eliminated in the urine
