First, Adler’s work foreshadowed much of the theory, research, and therapeutic applications to come. Second, Adler’s approach was firmly anchored to real-world situations and everyday problems that challenge all of us as individuals and as members of larger groups, that is, whether a dyad or a nation. Third, the emphasis Adler placed on interpersonal rather than intrapersonal existence as the ultimate point of entry for therapists to understand clients and the worlds they create for themselves was a critical change.
