Explain the role of probes in the search for a specific human gene within a genome library
What will be an ideal response?
Probes, complementary single-stranded RNA or DNA molecules that have a fluorescent or radioactive label, can come from a variety of sources, such as related genes from other species. These probes are used to identify and isolate the human version of the same gene. Probes identify genes in a library by their ability to base pair with the complementary base sequence in the gene that is being searched for; that binding can be detected by the probe's label.
