Issues of authority, family structure, sexuality/virginity, etc. all influence the role of child marriage in a culture. Examples include sub-sub-Saharan Africa where 40% of girls under 18 are married. Combine the cultural traditions with extenuating circumstances such as gender inequality that promotes preferences for sons and poverty which commodifies girls.
