Explain why eradicating child marriage in some parts of the world may prove extremely difficult. What social factors contribute to the practice of child marriage and what would need to be done to eradicate the practice?

What will be an ideal response?

Child marriage is deeply rooted in cultural tradition in many parts of the world and thus to eradicate it would require changing cultural norms as well as family/social structures. Issues of authority, family structure, sexuality/virginity, etc. all influence the role of child marriage in a culture. Examples include sub-sub-Saharan Africa where 40% of girls under 18 are married. Combine the cultural traditions with extenuating circumstances such as gender inequality that promotes preferences for sons and poverty which commodifies girls.
