Debate the pros and cons of administrative personnel not having the same requirements as clinical personnel in OSHA standards. Use at least three situations where there could be a need for additional protection.

What will be an ideal response?

Pros: There is less training involved for management because they do not have to train the administrative staff on clinical safety. The administrative staff can spend more time with their duties.
Cons: They are not educated on patient safety and are unable to assist if the patient needs help. If the clinical staff is shorthanded, they are not able to help in any way.
Answers will vary but may include the following:
1. A patient begins bleeding as he or she is asking a billing question.
2. A patient is having an allergic reaction and may need immediate assistance.
3. An administrative staff member gets chemicals in his eye after helping a patient.
