Describe the Food Guide Pyramid. Discuss how many portions of food you may eat from the groups at the bottom of the pyramid. What about the foods at the top of the pyramid?
What will be an ideal response?
The Food Guide Pyramid is used to show how many portions you should eat from each food group each day. The recommended number of servings varies for each of the groups. Persons eating the lowest number of servings from each group would take in fewer calories than those who eat the highest number.
A balanced diet contains the essential nutrients. Eating the right number of servings from each food group is a balanced diet. The sections contain a listing of the food groups, number of servings per day, and why these nutrients are necessary. The amount of each serving is listed. People with lower calorie needs should select the lower number of servings from each group. People with higher calorie needs should select the higher number of servings. The Food Guide Pyramid was designed to be individualized. It contains 12 intake levels, ranging from 1000 calories per day to 3200 calories per day. The pyramid should be individualized by each person to maintain a healthy weight. This can be easily done by visiting http://www.mypyramid.gov.
