I understand the economy is hurting, but laying off teachers is just not the answer. This time the
district didn’t just lay off Art and Music teachers, which is bad enough, but they also included Reading, Physical Education, and Foreign Language teachers while they were at it. I just do not follow the logic. Would it not be wiser for them to see if they could lower the salaries of the administration? The superintendent makes a whopping $175K for what? Why should he be paid this huge salary when the students and teachers are suffering? The students are receiving less of a well-rounded education and a lot less individualized attention when they end up sitting in a class of 40. Our state government has enough money to fund the construction of casinos and major road construction of roads that don’t need it. There is so much wasteful spending and no thoughts as to how they could best use the money in the budget. It is just makes me sick.
