Explain why low-income women in the United States are less likely to breastfeed but low-income women in developing countries are more likely to breastfeed.

What will be an ideal response?

The employment settings of low-income mothers in the United States may offer few resources to support breastfeeding, such as private places for women to use breast pumps. In contrast to industrialized countries, in developing countries women in the poorest social classes are usually more likely to breastfeed their children. In these countries, educated women of higher income brackets tend to shun breastfeeding and see it as an option primarily for low-income women who are unable to afford formula.
