Identify and discuss several ethical principles of conducting research with both human and nonhuman participants. Justify what you believe are the most significant ethical issues in research today?

What will be an ideal response?

Informed consent is the requirement that participants receive enough information prior to consenting to the research to make an informed decision on whether or not they want to participate. They must be allowed to withdraw at any time during the research without penalty. Participants cannot be required to participate or be coerced into participating. Deception in research should only be used when the data of a study might be compromised by the participant knowing the true purpose of the research. Participants should be debriefed at the end of a study and be given the option to obtain the final data if they desire the study results. All data should be kept confidential. Students may defend any of the principles mentioned as the most important.
