Ans: Cryptic unstable transcripts, or CUTs, are noncoding antisense RNAs in yeast that recruit histone deacetylases to result in locally remodeled chromatin and shut off transcription of a particular gene. Promoter upstream transcripts, or PROMPTs, have similar effects in human HeLa cells.
