What is the advantage of the use of a DNA microarray over Southern blotting / probe hybridization?

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: Following Southern blotting, a probe can be hybridized to a number of DNA fragments to detect a specific probe. A DNA microarray, on the other hand can contain hundreds of thousands of DNA fragments that can be simultaneously hybridized to many labeled probes, speeding the detection of many specific fragments.
