How can parents be involved in decision making?

What will be an ideal response?

Decision making is a partnership process in which parents and educators come together and share their ideas and views, solve problems, and take actions toward a shared vision that contributes to school goals and policies. There are different arenas for parent involvement in the school, such as review and evaluation of school program, review of fiscal budget, hiring of personnel, advisory roles on school committees, and advocacy for schools families and children.
To involve parents in these decision-making processes, teachers and administrators need to take into consideration the following:
- make sure that there is adequate number of parents represented on committees and that they are from diverse backgrounds;
- provide parents with relevant, timely, and clear information to make sound judgments decisions;
- provide training for parents in a variety of skills that help their children;
- establish regular meetings that parents can attend and find valuable; and
- develop and maintain collegiality between and among educators.
