The read aloud is a wonderful instructional strategy to integrate social studies. Describe an effective read aloud in the classroom
What will be an ideal response?
An effective read aloud should be daily or regularly scheduled. The text should be inviting and enticing, and one that students can interact with naturally. Texts should align with big ideas and content standards. In an effective read aloud teachers should: propose intriguing questions before, during, and after the read aloud—these can motivate students and capture their imaginations; introduce interesting artifacts—helps students visualize unknown words and ideas; display visuals such as photographs, charts, poster and documents; use maps to identify where the story takes place; use dramatic recreations; rewrite the story; conduct hands-on, mind-on activities.
