The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) targets five core social and emotional learning domains: (a) self-awareness (recognizing one's emotions and how they affect behavior, for example); (b) self-management (self-control, coping with stress, and impulse control, for example); (c) social awareness (perspective taking and empathy, for example); (d) relationship skills (developing positive relationships and communicating effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, for example); and (e) responsible decision making (engaging in ethical behavior and understanding the consequences of one's actions, for example).
