Answers will vary but correct responses should include: Geography played a major part in the success of the Persian empire since it commanded a central position, linking Central Asian markets to Southwest Asia and the Mediterranean. It was an empire of unprecedented scale that relied on long-range trade and invested in communications such as roads to provide the ability of military movement as well as trade. It used diplomacy by helping subjects in remote regions with canals, forts, and rebuilding to provide security and aid in their prosperity. Politically, the Persian Empire was essentially strong, well run, and easily governed.
