Jay is a recently widowed older man and Kay is a recently widowed older female. Describe similarities and differences in their likely reactions to the loss and the challenges that they will face

What will be an ideal response?

Jay and Kay are going to share several aspects of their reactions to the loss of their spouses. They will also both likely find the loss of their spouse to be one of the most traumatic events in their lives. They will both grapple with loneliness, depression, feeling out of place as a "single" person in social circumstances, and a tremendous sense of loss.

Jay will recovery from his loss more rapidly if he has a strong social support system. Kay may suffer from more serious financial consequences of her loss due to a significant decline in income after their spouse's death.

Both Jay and Kay may also struggle with the need for companionship and/or financial security, and may feel a need to cohabit or remarry.
