Compare the pains of electronic monitoring for white-collar offenders with those experienced by white- collar offenders who are incarcerated in prison. Which would you consider to be more serious? Why?
What will be an ideal response?
i. Some report that electronic monitoring for white-collar offenders is problematic because of the
level of control that community corrections officers have over the offenders’ lives. Specifically, offenders
experience deprivation of autonomy, deprivation of goods and services, deprivation of liberty, deprivation
of heterosexual relations, monetary costs, family effects, watching others effects, and the bracelet effect.
—ii. Respondents need to compare the above listed with the pains of incarceration, discuss which they
consider more serious, and provide a rationale for their choice.
