How might ethnic tensions and human rights abuses in Burma be reduced? What role should the international community play?

What will be an ideal response?

Efforts to reduce ethnic tensions will suggest policies and practices to integrate ethnic minorities into the body-politic, reduce discrimination, and lessen the existence of repressive state tactics. Some might argue that granting greater autonomy to minority ethnic groups is the best course of action. The international community has assumed a limited role, albeit largely in the form of economic sanctions. Arguably these have not worked. The international community, one might argue, should play a role, if nothing else because of the widespread human rights abuses that have taken place. However, an intervention must be tempered with a consideration of broader regional and international contexts.
