Explain the difference between collective behavior and crowds. Discuss how collective behavior is a source of social change.
What will be an ideal response?
Collective behavior: voluntary, goal-oriented action that occurs in relatively disorganized situations, in which society's predominant social norms and values cease to govern individual behavior. Crowds: temporary gatherings of closely interacting people with a common focus. Social movement organizations use the collective behavior of seemingly unorganized crowds and spontaneous noninstitutionalized political actions to generate social change.
