Discuss case management and its role in counseling.
What will be an ideal response?
?Much of the work that needs to happen with clients is not typically referred to as counseling, and counselors do not typically receive a lot of training in the kinds of tasks that need to be handled. Much of the work done by counselors falls under what would most appropriately be called “case management,” which refers to managing and coordinating all of those tasks and services that are necessary in making your client’s life easier.
?A counselor’s essential task here is to create cost-effective ways of helping people to maintain stability in their everyday lives.
?Typically, this includes working as part of a team to provide assistance in helping to create healthy interpersonal social support systems, monitoring medications (and other substance use), and arranging a supportive living environment.
?You may have to help find housing or employment, or help to negotiate appointments with a variety of service providers who can help your clients with particular issues they confront. Much of the talent and skill of this work involves being able to juggle a number of complicated scheduling tasks simultaneously and nurturing relationships with professionals in other agencies and schools
