What is transhumance? How does it relate to the environment of Central Asia?
What will be an ideal response?
Significant minorities of people in Central Asia engage in the ancient practice of transhumance. It is the process of moving grazing animals (such as sheep and goats) into higher mountain pastures during the warmer months of the year, and then bringing them back down into lowland valleys during the winter. The low population density coupled with an arid, mountainous terrain throughout much of Central Asia makes transhumance a normal
livelihood for a large minority of the nomadic population of the region, especially in the mountainous regions of Tibet, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
