Describe how neurotransmitter levels can affect criminality
What will be an ideal response?
The chemicals in the brain and the rest of the body determine how we think, perceive, and react to various stimuli. Neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, are linked to “feeling good” so those who do cocaine or methamphetamines are likely lacking a natural boost to their dopamine receptors. Serotonin is involved in almost all information processing, so with a serotonin imbalance, individuals tend to have issues with everyday communication and life in general. If there are imbalances in one or more of these neurotransmitters, individuals are more likely to turn to criminal activity to self-medicate and boost the levels.
