Describe cognitive behavioral interventions and the attributes of a person most likely to benefit. When would it be a less effective choice of interventions?

What will be an ideal response?

CBT intervention is the attempt to identify thought patterns and connect those thoughts to feelings and behaviors. The process in general begins with preparation of the client to learn about the process of CBT; collaborations-identification in which the connection between thought patterns and feelings is begun–homework might be assigned in which the client makes independent connections between the presence of the distressful situations and the feelings that follow; During the change phase the client is given behavioral strategies such as behavioral rehearsal to correct his/her distorted thoughts and consequent feelings. Consolidation-termination is the final phase in which the social worker reviews the client’s progress and helps to consolidate the change and the skills that have been learned so the strategies can be applied beyond the therapeutic intervention. Persons best suited for this intervention are verbal and willing to disclose information about their thoughts and feelings to the social worker. People with severe memory problems would not benefit. The same is true if a person’s anxiety or depression is too severe to tolerate the process which requires concentration and retention thought patterns, make the connections to feelings and ability to follow the directions.
