Both Cattell, and McCrae and Costa suggested that biology and the environment influence behavior. Cattell suggested, however, that traits can be either biologically or environmentally determined. McCrae and Costa believe that traits are primarily biologically based but that the environment (external factors) can also influence our behavior somewhat.
