What are some of the potential harms that might come from using scales?

What will be an ideal response?

ANS: Scales are subject to all of the concerns raised in any survey or interview study. Thus, a researcher may ask questions that prompt unwanted memories of sexual assault or victimization. In addition, scales suffer from two unique problems. First, we have to be sure that the scale measures something real; otherwise, we may find ourselves identifying people as having traits that they do not have. Second, telling people their scale results may alter their sense of identity, which could result in changing their behavior. We would thus have changed our study participants without their informed consent.
