We are all combinations of the influences of our genetic inheritances and social and physical environments; therefore, we must focus on environments that foster gifted performance. Researchers used to try to assign quantitative values to genetics and environment to say how much each contributed to intelligence. Most professionals today agree that this is pointless, as it is impossible to separate the effects of one on the other. Genetic and other biological factors (e.g., neurological functioning and nutrition): Although giftedness may be determined in part by one's genetic inheritance, genetic combinations are exceedingly complex and not distributed by race or socioeconomic level.
