What are the advantages and disadvantages of the intrauterine device (IUD) as a form of contraception?

What will be an ideal response?

A major disadvantage of the IUD is its initial cost of about $300. However, considering it can be used over a long period of time, the IUD is a cheap means of contraception. The effectiveness of the copper-T IUD is a major advantage. The typical-user failure rate is only 0.8 percent, making it more effective than combination birth control pills and Depo-Provera. It is also very simple to use-the woman has to only periodically check to see that the strings are in place. Unlike the condom or the diaphragm, the IUD does not interrupt intercourse in any way and the woman does not have to remember to use it. The IUD can also be safely used by women after having a baby and while breast-feeding.
