Functional job analysis (FJA) is a job analysis method developed by the Employment and Training Administration of the Department of Labor. FJA uses standardized statements and terminology to describe the content of jobs. The most recent version of FJA uses seven scales to describe what employees do in their jobs. Each of these scales has several levels that are anchored with specific behavior statements and illustrative tasks. Analysis of employee requirements in each of these areas results in a determination of the specific requirements of a job.
