Answer: Mass is the quantity of matter in an object while weight is the force due to gravity on the object. Mass is more fundamental than weight because it only involves the object itself, whereas weight may vary for the same object in different locations. For example, a block of matter on the Moon will have the same mass, but weigh less than on Earth.
