What are the main characteristics of short-term mating? Is it different from dating?

What will be an ideal response?

Short-term mating is focused solely on sex, and it includes either a one-time sexual encounter or a
short relationship in which partners have agreed to maintain a purely physical relationship. Short-term
relationships are more common in younger age, but that is not always the case. Dating includes short-
term mating, but it is not limited to it; dating can also be an introduction to a long-term relationship.
There are also gender differences in short-term mating; it is more characteristic for males, who
concentrate on having sex with many healthy women and potentially producing a lot of offspring. For
women, short-term relationships are focused on obtaining resources and social status.
