People with high self-esteem are willing to take risks and are able to use setbacks as motivation to try harder. They feel pride in their accomplishments, and this energizes them strive harder for success, which again brings on high self-esteem. People with low self-esteem are afraid to take risks, not confident, and view problems as failures. This leads to reduced effort, reduced chance for success, and further lowered self-esteem.
