Why have U.S. actions in the region been considered neocolonial? Are there other regions in the world where the United States exerts neocolonial tendencies?
What will be an ideal response?
U.S. activities in the Caribbean are considered neocolonial because, arguably, American foreign policies have been directed toward economic benefits for American corporations as opposed to the promotion of self-sufficiency and democracy in the region. The United States continues to exert neocolonial tendency in other former colonies (i.e., the Philippines), common-wealths (i.e., Guam, American Samoa), and other strategic locations (i.e., Okinawa in Japan and Guantanamo Bay in Cuba).
