You are a participant in an experiment where researchers ask you to take a math test at 6 p.m. on a Monday night in an empty classroom using a tablet computer. Once you complete the test, you are given a pamphlet on calculating measures of central tendency to read at home. You are told to read it and return to take the same test at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night. You return and take the test in a classroom full of people using paper and a pencil. Identify the type of experiment being conducted and analyze its strengths and weaknesses.

What will be an ideal response?

May vary. This is a one-group, pre-test, post-test design. It is rather easy to set up
and deploy because it does not involve random assignment or control groups. However, because the same test is taken twice, there may be test/retest gain and likely regression to the mean. There is also a significant time lag between the tests. Furthermore, the measurement standards change for each test from computer tablet to paper and pencil.
