Drawing on information in current newspapers and magazines, as well as TV and the Internet, apply the concepts of cultural imperialism, nationalism, and cultural syncretism to a region or place experiencing cultural tensions
What will be an ideal response?
China provides a useful case study, however. Within China, the relocation of Han Chinese into the outer provinces of Tibet and Xinjiang are viewed by many as a form of cultural imperialism; likewise, these areas continue to struggle for their own autonomy—if not outright independence. Hence, the promotion of Tibetan nationalism, for example, is clearly visible. In other parts of China, as the country continues to integrate more fully within the global economy, others forms of cultural syncretism are in evidence, such as the increased usage of English and the acceptance of western styles of music and film.
