Discuss the differences between original and appellate jurisdiction.

What will be an ideal response?

Original jurisdiction means that a court gets to hear the case initially. The court makes a determination of fact based on the evidence and the appropriate level of the burden of proof. This typically means a guilty or not guilty verdict in a criminal case or a judgment for the defendant or plaintiff in a civil case. An appellate court determines whether a reversible error occurred in the court of original jurisdiction based on legal process and constitutional principles. If an appellate court finds such an error, it can reverse the decision or remand the case for retrial.
