What is the main environmental problem associated with the Mississippi River delta and what is to be done about it?
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: Dams upstream contain some of the silt that naturally replenishes the delta. With rising sea level and the sinking of existing sediments this means that the area of the delta is noticeably shrinking and saltwater encroaching. It has been proposed to divert freshwater into the marshes to enhance the vegetation but there is not plan and it is uncertain if this will solve the deltas problems.
