In your own words, explain why posture can be a contributing factor to ergonomic injuries.
What will be an ideal response?
This explanation might discuss over-reaching, bending at the waist, working at an end-range motion, etc. as a contributing factor since any of these puts the body into an awkward position, putting excessive strain on muscle groups. A good discussion could center around the effects of lifting at an end-range-motion where the object lifted “feels” much heavier than it actually is, such as how a fulcrum acts with weight at both ends. Another good discussion could center on the pressure on the spine when it is bent or twisted (see the back illustrations and explanations within the chapter).
