There are a few things that can be done to help cancer patients overcome the metallic taste and nausea that occurs with smelling food. Be creative and see if you can think of anything that may be helpful in this respect
If the liquids are served very cold, the taste is less offensive. Keep a lid on the container and, if possible, have the patient drink with a straw. This will help minimize the odor.
The usual supplements frequently taste extremely sweet to many cancer patients. Many of them find the unflavored supplements that are intended to be administered via feeding tube to be acceptable; e.g., Osmolite, Isocal, Magnacal, etc.
