What are the roles of the lymphatic system in relation to the cardiovascular system?
What will be an ideal response?
Under normal conditions slightly more fluid moves out of the blood and into the interstitial fluid than moves from the interstitial fluid into the blood. This results in a small amount of fluid being left in the interstitial fluid. This excess is picked up by the lymphatic system and is emptied into the veins. In addition to this function the lymphatic system plays a role in the body's defenses, transports absorbed fats, and returns filtered proteins to the blood.
