Discuss the concept of the panopticon, and how governments use panoptic means to maintain control.

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: Author Michel Foucault’s panopticon was built on Bentham’s prison design: prison cells built around a central guard tower where the prisoners were watched at all times. According to the author, the fear of being watched by the government/law enforcement officials creates fear and thus individuals tend to self-police.
