Compare the traits of Allport, Cattell and McCrae and Costa. How are they different? How are they the same?

What will be an ideal response?

McCrae and Costa believe there are five basic traits. Allport suggested that we all have between five and ten central dispositions (traits) that make up our basic personalities. Cattell argued that there were sixteen traits (factors). All these trait theorists also suggest that while there are a certain number of basic traits, there are also less important traits or dispositions. McCrae and Costa, for example, suggest that there are basic tendencies (the five basic traits) but that there are also characteristic adaptations, which are more changeable. Allport discussed not only central dispositions but also secondary traits (and cardinal traits). Cattell's dynamic lattices consist of ergs, sems, and attitudes. One last difference in opinion among the trait theorists is about whether traits are biologically based or not. McCrae and Costa, for example suggest that basic tendencies are biologically based. The theorists also vary in how they categorize traits and the methods they use to determine basic traits.
