Why would an iron deficiency result in anemia?

What will be an ideal response?

A hemoglobin molecule has an iron atom at its center. Therefore, if inadequate amounts of iron are
present, hemoglobin cannot be produced at an adequate rate. Hemoglobin is the oxygen-carrying
substance in an erythrocyte, so a deficiency of hemoglobin results in anemia.
