Cultural diffusion refers to the process in which a social group adopts some part of another group's culture when they come into contact. This includes material culture such as tools, food, and clothing, as well as nonmaterial culture such as values and beliefs. The group that adopts the material or nonmaterial culture will often change it in some way so the new tool or practice fits the needs of the people using it. For example, when the Japanese adopted baseball, they modified the rules slightly and made some changes to the game. When Americans eat Chinese food, they often use a fork rather than chopsticks.
