Why is the concept of hydration important? Explain what you know about this physiological concept

What will be an ideal response?

Hydration is the physiological condition maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance in the body. Hydration is an important concept in maintaining homeostasis, or a constant internal environment. Maintaining homeostasis keeps the tissues and organs functioning at optimal levels. Hydration

becomes important when it is not maintained.

Dehydration is the loss of body water and electrolytes essential for normal body

function. Many things can cause dehydration, including temperature extremes, sun exposure, not drinking enough fluid, disease conditions, and use of certain medications. Complications of dehydration include decreases in blood pressure, tachycardia,

and tachypnea. The body may try to retain body water by decreasing its volume of urine (through antidiuretic hormone release), decreasing sweating or panting, and lowering energy output.
