What factors promote unloading of oxygen from hemoglobin?

-pH (increased CO2)
1. Acidosis shifts curve to right, affinity of hemoglobin for O2 is lower (Bohr Effect)
2. Alkalosis shifts curve to left, affinity of hemoglobin for O2 is higher.
3. pH can be changed by CO2 - More CO2, more carbonic acid, more O2 delivered by hemoglobin.
